Nominations are now being accepted for the Kathryn Allen Award that recognizes professionals who demonstrate excellence and have made outstanding contributions in their work to promote the successful registration of Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) as RN/RPN/LPNs in Canada, and/or the integration of IENs into the Canadian health care workforce.
The award is named in honor of Kathryn Allen, RN, MSc(N). Kathryn was a dedicated Nurse Educator who worked with IENs for many years. She was instrumental in the introduction of programs in Nova Scotia that support the IENs transition into Canadian health care practice. Her work included programs such as orientation to the Canadian health care system, bridge to Canadian nursing, workplace transition and a national licensure exam preparation workshop. Kathryn was involved in national and local committees, fostering collaborations with multiple stakeholders to help break down barriers and promote knowledge. She was committed to excellence and truly enjoyed being a part of the IEN’s journey to successful nursing in Canada.
