Multicultural Wellness Fair 2016

Apr 5, 2016

The Multicultural Wellness Fair’s organizing committee is inviting service providers and community groups to participate in the 4th annual Multicultural Wellness Fair. The Multicultural Wellness Fair is a multi-agency partnering initiative, coordinated by Good Shepherd, Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion (HCCI), YWCA and The City of Hamilton Public Health department.

The first Multicultural Wellness Fair was held in May 2013 and since then has run annually. It has grown to be a highly attended mental health week event, both by service providers and community members, with 32 service providers and approximately 200 community members attending in 2015.

The purpose of the fair is to reach out to culturally diverse populations in Hamilton during the national annual Mental Health Week. Immigrants and refugees face many barriers in relation to accessing mental health services including a lack of information about mental health and helpful services. The fair is a great opportunity for service providers to reach out and provide information directly to diverse populations that are not accessing services. It connects service providers with undeserved communities and create awareness about the range of  available services and resources to multicultural communities, including newcomer immigrants and refugees. At the fair, different cultural performances and food will be presented, providing participants with the opportunity to appreciate Hamilton’s diverse cultures as well as hear the stories and voices of people who will share their experience.

The Multicultural Wellness Fair will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the David Braley Health Science Centre, 100 Main Street West, Hamilton.
