POSITION DESCRIPTION The Manager of Programs will be responsible for the management, implementation and supervision of HCCI’s programs and will work to increase community participation, as well as visibility within the community by raising awareness of programs and activities offered. This is a full-time, one-year contract position with potential extension. Annual Salary range: $50,000- $55,000. Work duties fall under: administration; fiscal management; planning; program management, reporting, special event coordination, human resource development; communication; and community/partner relations. The Manager of Programs reports to the HCCI Governing Council Chair, and is responsible for interfacing with HCCI partners and programs in the following ways: Together We Can Youth Mentorship program: In partnership with community partners, the program delivers one-to-one mentorship and in-school group mentorship opportunities, targeting black youth aged 13-18 through a collective impact and Cultural Identity approach. The Manager of Programs will:
  • Work with programming staff to lead the overall program administration and delivery, including agreed upon program deliverables.
  • Provide financial and service performance reporting, including submission of required reports within established framework.
  • Provide communications support to program staff and partner, collaborate with partners to ensure program message and brand consistency.
  • Oversee the development of appropriate policies and procedures for protecting the privacy of personal information with respect to the collection, use, disclosure and access to such information contained in records.
  • Establish and maintain both informal and formal partnerships to strengthen/enhance program outcome
  • Collect and provide quantitative and/or qualitative data requested by the funding Ministry relating to service performance measurement.
  • Oversee the development of service plans / assessments of mentee goals / desired outcomes for each session, develop appropriate activities (monthly sessions, tours, speakers lineup etc); recruit participating schools, mentees and mentors/session facilitators and speakers; orientation for mentees and mentors/session facilitators and speakers; Plan and facilitate group mentoring sessions; Plan activities and plans that will be undertaken by mentors and mentees to meet the mentee goals and desired program outcomes; Ongoing support to mentees; Referrals to other programs and services.
DiverseCity onBoard: Bridges the diversity gap in governance by providing access to affordable governance training and connecting qualified candidates from under-represented groups to not-for-profit organizations and public agencies, boards and commissions. The Manager of Programs will:
  • Ensure that strategic vision and operational goals of DiverseCity onBoard program are on track
  • Market and promote the program with key stakeholders, partners, media, underrepresented communities and potential candidates.
  • Coordinate events, speaking engagements and outreach activities to recruit organizations and individuals to participate in the program.
  • Facilitate board matching program, pre-screen candidates and provide guidance to organizations.
  • Implement digital and social media strategies to successfully outreach and recruit
  • Report and evaluation
Other Responsibilities
  • Management/coordination of all logistical aspects of running productive and engaging events (i.e. Leadership Conferences, training workshops, service projects and events as needed)
  • Facilitate the Advantage Diversity program to provide diversity and inclusion training to organizations on demand.
  • Work with partners to collaborate on different initiatives.
  • Work with Governing Council to create and own a yearly budget and management plan for the programs, and achieving annual budget objectives
  • Manage correspondence, files, databases and schedules.
  • Write and distribute newsletters, flyers, documents, and other marketing related materials as directed
  • Maintaining a strong and appropriate local social media presence and media relations.
  • Identifying and pursuing grant/funding opportunities
  • Identifying and maintaining relationships with organizations that further the mission of the
  • University Degree in community/human/social services, or a related field and/or a minimum of five years of experience in program management, community engagement, outreach, empowerment, and development.
  • Extensive experience in community development work, social sciences or human services is necessary.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting, working with volunteers and with diverse multi-ethnic equity-seeking groups/ communities
  • Experience in program development, implementation and consensus/collective approaches to problem solving
  • Deep understanding with and/or direct experience in positive race relations, anti-oppression initiatives and a global perspective of diversity
  • French language is an asset.

  • Good public education, presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Understand of diversity and inclusion issues, strong cultural awareness and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and promoting inclusion.
  • Good understanding and/or experience with community-based initiatives
  • Teamwork, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Able to work with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Computer word-processing, database, and Internet skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong computer skills
