On Saturday, May 7th, 2016, more 350 people attended the 4th Annual Multicultural Wellness Fair, which was held at David Braley Health Sciences Centre of McMaster University.  The annual Multicultural Wellness Fair is a multi-agency partnering initiative, coordinated by Good Shepherd, Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion (HCCI), YWCA and The City of Hamilton Public Health department.

Celebrating Mental Health Week, 26 service providers and 11 community groups participated by showcasing their services related to mental health and wellness. Immigrants and refugees face many barriers in relation to accessing mental health services including a lack of information about mental health and helpful services. The purpose of the fair is to reach out to culturally diverse populations in Hamilton, to increase awareness about available services.

Participants were also presented with the opportunity to appreciate Hamilton’s diverse cultures with a variety of music and dance performances from different parts of the world. Nations Fresh Foods sponsored part of the food that showcased different of cuisines from different nations.

The Multicultural Wellness Fair committee is grateful to Nations Fresh Food for sponsoring the nutritious multicultural food, David Braley Health Sciences Centre for sponsoring the venue and all volunteers who were instrumental in making the event a success.
